Is it hot in here?

I vote at a fire station. It’s like walking into one of those firemen calendars each time I need to cast a ballot. Yes, I know there are female firefighters, but I cannot spot any with all those biceps in the way.

The last time I was there I waited nearly an hour before someone reminded me that election day was months away. And that the shower stalls were not voting booths.

But all that’s going to change as Los Angeles County transitions from polling places to vote centers, which allow any voter to cast their ballot at any vote center location within the county during an 11-day period. There are a lot of benefits to this change, but I’m going miss my five-alarm flavor of democracy.
